RSL striker Ari Piol has undergone a successful surgery on a torn achilles, the club announced today. The striker is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season.
Piol, 21, suffered the injury during a non-contact event during Saturday's match against Seattle Sounders.
The injury leaves RSL somewhat short at forward, with fellow striker Victor Olatunji currently out with an eye injury, which is apparently a scratch. Of the replacements, newcomer Morgan Guilavogui and hot-shot winger Zavier Gozo are the most likely to be conscripted into the role.
Piol has had some ups and downs during his time at RSL, having arrived at the start of the 2025 season. He scored one goal and had two assists last season, and he scored against Seattle Sounders this season.
It remains to be seen if Real Salt Lake will look to the transfer market to replace Piol in the short-term. Sergi Solans and Jesus Barea, both recent draft picks, offer immediate depth options, and Aiden Hezarkhani and Marcos Zambrano are both youth options that could potentially fit into the role.
