Real Salt Lake may have squandered a chance at sealing a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs, but they haven’t squandered a chance to remain glued to the television.
After choosing perhaps the worst possible time of the year to falter in form, RSL could still have claimed a spot with a victory over Portland Timbers. Instead, they lost 3-0; combine that with a 3-1 win for LA Galaxy over Minnesota United, and we are sitting with 49 points on the season.
LA Galaxy has 48 — and one more game to play. And it’s in Los Angeles. (Or Carson, I guess. I don’t know, that’s still in LA County, so I’ll stick with Los Angeles here.)
If LA win, we’re out. Full stop. No rescue.
If they don’t — if somehow Houston comes up with an answer for a question we’re asking — we’ll be in. That’s really as simple as it gets.
