Omar Holness out for 2017, most of 2018

Another RSL midfielder is out for the rest of the year.

Omar Holness has been ruled out of contention for 2017, according to a club-issued press release. He underwent a knee surgery to repair a ruptured ACL and will miss an estimated 8 to 12 months.

The injury is the second to claim a Real Salt Lake player for the entirety of the season; Jordan Allen underwent a surgery at the end of June after suffering a knee injury, too. Chad Barrett suffered an injury very early in the season, and that could see him out for 2017 — although playoffs could still be a possibility for the veteran.

Holness, 23, ends the season with 261 minutes played over nine games — roughly the same number as his 2016 contribution. He scored his first goal for the club in a 2-6 loss to FC Dallas on June 3.
