Real Salt Lake selects Jordan Murrell with 57th pick in MLS Draft

Matt Montgomery

With the 57th pick in the 2015 MLS Draft, Real Salt Lake selected Jordan Murrell, a left back from Syracuse.

Murrell, from Markham, Ontario, has played for Canadian youth teams and was a part of the Toronto FC academy. In his 2014 season at Syracuse, he played in all 21 matches, notching seven assists and scoring two goals along the way.

It remains to be seen if Murrell, 21, will make Real Salt Lake's final squad, especially with Demar Phillips joining and Abdoulie Mansally re-signing. He was well-rated before the draft, but Top Drawer Soccer reported that he's been in talks with European teams, so he may not even end up playing in MLS.

Murrell had been a fairly early selection in the SB Nation mock draft, with Colorado Rapids selecting him at number 26.
