Tyrone Marshall joins Real Salt Lake as assistant coach

Tyrone Marshall, former Jamaican international and captain and an MLS player from 1998 to 2012, will be joining Real Salt Lake as an assistant coach, according to a press release from Real Salt Lake.

Marshall, 40, managed PDL side Derby City Rovers in Louisville, Kentucky in 2014. A defender, he'll step into the space vacated by Craig Waibel, Real Salt Lake's new technical director.

In his playing career, Marshall had two stints at Colorado Rapids (1998 and 2011-12), a five-year stint at LA Galaxy (2002-07), two years at Toronto FC (2007-08), and two years at Seattle Sounders. (2009-10).

In a press release, Cassar described Marshall as exemplary of the staff he wants under him at the club.

"He had a very, very good career in MLS and he's a young, hungry coach who wants to prove himself," he said. "That's the kind of staff I want to have."

In the release, Marshall described himself as "excited" to join Real Salt Lake.

"The direction and vision that Jeff Cassar has created within the team is something I aspired to be associated with once given the opportunity to return to MLS," Marshall said in the press release.
