Real Salt Lake hosted Los Angeles Football Club on Wednesday in a rescheduled game. They now travel to California to face them again, having just fallen 4-1 to their opponents.
It has to be said that LAFC is a very good team that is only getting better with the recent addition of Son Heung-min. His hat trick on Wednesday felt far too easy, and RSL’s defense has to learn some lessons from that game.
RSL's attack spent much of their last game looking frustrated. Aside from a moment of absolute brilliance from Zavier Gozo, nothing was coming off for them. RSL had a higher xG than LAFC, at 3.02 (per Fotmob), and recorded 21 shots with 5 on target, but still only scored a single goal. Yes, LAFC has one of the stronger defensive records in the West, but RSL has to do more with the chances they create.
With RSL having just one win and no ties in their last five games, they desperately need a result from this game if they want to keep any hope for a playoff spot.
